Aerospace and Defence in the Pact for Skills
Aerospace and Defence entered the Pact for Skills on 10 November 2020 at a high level event featuring European Commissioners, Ministers, CEOs and civil society representatives. The event followed a successful roundtable where Commissioners discussed, with high level representatives within the sector, the actions needed to address current challenges of the industry.
Upskilling and reskilling are important drivers for the Aerospace and Defence industry's recovery from the pandemic, ensuring carbon-free products and manufacturing, the meeting of digital needs, the running of successful European programmes, and the building of Europe's strategic autonomy and resilience.
To enter the Pact, the sector set up a large-scale partnership of companies, universities & VET organisations, public authorities and social partners to upskill 200.000 employees and reskill 300.000 people to enter its supply chain, representing a public and private investment of €1 billion in the next 10 years.

The Commission will support the members of the Pact through three hubs: knowledge (exchange and learn), networking (finding partners) and guidance (find about relevant EU funding), which will be available from late 2021.
All members of the Pact signed up to the Charter and its key principles, which they agree to respect and uphold.
The Pact for Skills builds on previous EU-funded initiatives and projects, such as the European Defence Skills Partnership and Assets+, and on the work already done for the defence sector.
